Aqua is, in chronological order, the fifth work based on historical reenactment and the fourth concerning the life of Jesus, as narrated in the Gospels.
Specifically, AQUA tells of two events in the life of Jesus related, indeed, to water.
The miracle of walking on the waters of Lake Tiberias and the baptism in the Jordan River.
We found the perfect setting in Trevignano, a town on the beautiful Lake Bracciano just a few kilometers from Rome.
Precisely the proximity of the location allowed us to take all the shots in a single photo session.
Yes... the planning. Arriving prepared and with clear ideas on set allowed us to prepare in advance the most suitable costumes, decide which lighting to use, and have a precise idea of how to take the photographs... including the miracle of making a person walk on water without resorting to computer graphics.
AQUA will enrich an exhibition, printed in large format, in continuous evolution.
Having the 100MP of the Fujifilm GFX100 at my disposal was an unimaginable advantage for me when I started this work in 2013.
It's not just about the number of megapixels. Of course, making prints one meter by one and a half meters with such an abundance of information is a considerable advantage. But the real step forward for me was being able to work with a camera capable of delivering a very wide dynamic range and extremely soft and progressive tonal transitions. Who would have ever imagined that on that evening in 2013 when I took the first shot of “Between Faith and History” with the X-M1.
The chosen light source was, as always, essential but functional. A 600-watt flash allowed me to maintain the narrative style of the images that I have developed over the years.
