Señor de los Milagros de Nazarenas is a traditional religious celebration in Peru and in Peruvian communities around the world. Its origins date back to 1655 when an earthquake devastated the city of Lima. Amid the rubble, a wall on which the painting of the crucified Jesus was found remained standing even after subsequent tremors. The citizens began to consider the event as a divine sign and to pray before the image, also obtaining healings. All this led to the painting being considered miraculous: “Lord of Miracles”.
Every year all Peruvian communities renew their faith by carrying in procession a copy of the original painting, together with the painting of the Madonna della Nube.
