Matthew 9-9:13

On November 23, 2018, on the occasion of the birthday of His Excellency Cardinal Raffaele Martino, Protodeacon of His Holiness, the work "Matthew 9-9:13" was presented in the Cathedral of Salerno.

The painting, masterfully created using the ancient pastel technique by master Ippazio Campa, is the culmination of a group effort aimed at representing the "Calling of St. Matthew" in an innovative way while maintaining the inspiration of Caravaggio's immense masterpiece.

The work draws inspiration from the extreme brevity with which the Gospel narrates this episode. Jesus sees Matthew behind a counter collecting taxes on behalf of Rome, calls him, and he follows him.

And it is precisely in the moment when the gaze of the tax collector meets that of the Messiah that the entirety of that moment is captured. The M9913 group, under the guidance of Max Angeloni, has reconstructed this precise moment, faithfully setting it in the historical period in which it occurred and capturing it in a high-definition photograph.

The painting, created by reproducing this photograph, measuring 200x140 cm, will be placed inside the Cathedral of Salerno.
